2019-20 Calendar & Hours
We are extremely excited that our students will receive a full semester of instruction prior to a two-week Christmas break and our calendar now aligns with that of not only Hickory Public Schools and Newton-Conover Public Schools, but also with that of colleges and universities. This is a huge benefit for our students!

BENEFIT: Ending our first semester before Christmas Break!
BENEFIT: Improving the safety of elementary students at morning bus stops! By starting our elementary students at 8:15 AM, our youngest students who are waiting at morning bus stops will not have to do so in the dark any more.
BENEFIT: Preserving valuable instruction time for students with extracurricular activities! Students who participate in extracurricular activities will not have to miss important instructional time at the end of the day when they are required to leave school early to attend extracurricular events.
BENEFIT: Increasing instructional support in the mornings in our elementary schools! Our TAs who are also our bus drivers will now be available to begin assisting in the classroom earlier as all bus routes are completed upon their elementary drop offs. There is a greater need for instructional support in the morning for elementary students so this is a huge benefit to our youngest students.
BENEFIT: Providing extra professional development time for teachers prior to the beginning of school! Additional time is now available for teachers to attend professional development for personalized learning initiatives, plus the new Chromebook Rollout for grades 9-12 prior to the beginning of the school year.
- Our calendar is now aligned with colleges and universities so our high school students who graduate early are able to begin their college career immediately.
- High school students may now take their exams before Christmas break providing more continuity without a two-week interruption in instruction just prior to their exams.
